A historical novel by HELEN HOREANTHI, organized into three successive “stages”, as many as the seasons it takes the plot to unfold, and equal to the number of leading characters moving within and defining it. Using the journalw of Brother Erineuw, a surviving monk, as a starting point, then going through the narration of Callistratuw, Father Superior of St. Symeon’s monastery, and including with the “finishing touch” of Alexander, a young visitor to the monastery, the author reconstructs in vivid colours the life and history of the Sacred City of Messolonghi, with focus on the dramatic events that led to the siege of the city by the Turks and the final heroic Exodus, when both Greek soldiers and civilians outdid every human limitation in their struggle for freedom, thus presenting humanity with one of the most astounding symbols of sacrifice.
