This is the story of the childhood years of Deenekis, nephew of Aeschylos and Kynegyros.
We are in Athens around 480 BC, and in the battle of Marathon (52 km away) the glorious Persian army has just been destroyed by Greeks (led by Athenians). The young soldier --first Marathon runner-- falls dead after spreading the big news of the victory against the intruders.
At this time, the Spartans arrive late, and ask --as a matter of respect-- the Athenians to lead them to see the battlefield.
Deenekis is allowed by his uncle --famous tragic poet Aeschylos-- to join the Spartan expedition to Marathon and try to memorize for all his life the aftermath of the big battle.
