The History of Western Philosophy in 100 Haikus

The Greek poet Haris Vlavianos has chosen 100 philosophers in the western tradition, from the pre-Socratics, by way of Arab and Jewish thinkers in medieval Spain, to modern figures such as Jacques Derrida and Martha Nussbaum, and has composed a pithy haiku on each of them. In almost all cases, each haiku is accompanied by the title of a relevant work by the philosopher concerned, and some are also accompanied by a brief note clarifying the context. These haikus are brilliantly witty and often hilariously funny, but at the same time they succeed in conveying the history of western philosophy to the reader in an extraordinarily concise and unexpected way. A perfect pocket-sized gift for budding and seasoned philosophers alike.
