Crete, during the time of the German occupation. The house of Costanza, a beautiful and highly desirable woman, has been comandeered by the Germans, among whom being the Director of the Wehrmacht, who is particularly fond of Costanza, giving birth to rumours claiming that she is the highranking Nazi’s lover and collaborator. In truth, however, Costanza goes out of her way to aid the Cretan resistance forces, and in doing so meets a wounded British officer whom she falls madly in love with and attempts to help escape. When she has a baby –the fruit of their illicit love– the local clamour against her gains momentum, as no-one knows who the baby’s father really is. In the midst of this confusion, a traitorous guerilla warrior murders Costanza and abandons her baby in a cave. However, the infant boy is saved by a German who takes him back with him to Germany. Twenty-one years later the baby has become a grown man, returning to Crete to seek out people and things that may shed light on his past, only to discover there are grudges which haven’t yet been settled and that solving a crime isn’t always the desired closure to an old tragedy, but often the beginning of a new one…
