The present volume of collected poems comprises works published between 1973 and 1997, together with a number of poems from 1997 to 2008 not previously published in book form. It is an opportunity to reappraise the work of this singular Greek poet who has remained faithful to his poetic vision for over thirty years, so much so that the collection reads as one long poem, rather like a work in progress. Chronas deals with the fringes of existence where, for him, the essence is to be found. Time and space are ever-present in his work, which evolves rather like a drama with often mythical personae in familiar, everyday situations and settings. His voice is direct, simple and austere, deliberately anti-lyrical, yet all the more moving and, often, electrifying for that very reason. It is a poetry that affirms life in spite of.
