It looks like just another day for Mr. Selfish when he deliberately parks in a space reserved for drivers of limited mobility while he goes shopping. But when he steps out in the shoes he has just bought, their slippery soles send him sliding down a hole and into an unfamiliar world, the Wheeled Republic of I Can. The houses are small, the doors are half size; there are no pavements and no cars. Everyone else is getting about in a wheelchair, looking happy. Mr. Selfish wants out, now, but he is due to get a lesson in this strange place that is designed solely for people in wheelchairs. He can’t use the specially designed elevators or public transport, a giant hook that picks up wheelchairs, and he has to bend double to get through a door. Realization eventually dawns in this thought-provoking, beautifully illustrated fable by Nikolas Andrikopoulos
